Football fans and pundits all around the world can’t wait to see what will become of neymar dos santos junior on joining Barcelona. The 21 year old 5 year contract with the Catalonian side has been subjected to severe scrutiny and prospective speculations ever since he put pen to paper. Neymar, having shown nothing but sheer brilliance and finesse in the just concluded FIFA 2013 confederations cup, is unarguably a rising star. If he would be able to prove himself personally and collectively in a Barcelona front line that is built around lionel messi , is only matter of time.
The odds however, are not in favor of the Brazilian wonder boy. most strikers, who were prolific at a time, just couldn’t live up to expectation playing alongside messi. The likes of alexis Sanchez and David villa to mention a few, upon moving to the nou camp from Udinese FC and Valencia FC respectively, lost that flare and have merely been playing second fiddle to messi ever since. Tactically and technically, messi and neymar have similar disposition on the pitch; they are both attacking minded forwards. The only difference is that they employ different techniques.
Neymar is good on both legs and has got a bit of ‘samba’ in him and he can initiate an attack from either wing, but then, messi ,is a ‘total footballer’, He is not confined within a particular conventional role. He creates chances as much as he scores goals. He’s got pace and a left foot drive that no defense can contain yet, and with the argentine forward not looking likely to wane in the nearest future, Neymar’s contract with Barcelona might just break him instead of make him.
The Brazilian ace who has scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for the Brazilian national team so far, however, acknowledges messi as the best player in the world and claims he is not after the argentines spot, but it is only a matter of time before he realizes that he too has got what it takes, and when he does, a paradigm shift is an unexpendable antecedent if he is to become the best footballer in the world someday during he’s stay at the nou camp. pep guardiola, the Catalonian side former boss, however thinks otherwise. He argues that messi is a fantastic player and has got a fantastic personality on and off the pitch and that both aces (messi and neymar) can be compactable on the field of play. If this happens, and someway somehow these two players find their rhythm playing alongside each other, the world of football is in for a thrill.
Come August 18 when Barcelona open their league campaign against levante, fans and even critics can’t wait to be either disappointed or overwhelmed by the unprecedented football chemistry and sheer individual brilliance messi and Neymar are poised to exude playing together.
