The society we live in today is the one which promotes mediocrity above merit; this has no doubt contributed to limit our ability to bring out the best of talents and representation of ingenuity especially by our youths.
Despite this, Nigeria is never in short of youth that provides inspiration and serve as role models to upcoming youth. Be it in music, art, sport, academic and leadership, Nigeria is never short of youth of hope and role models.
We have child prodigy, graduating from the university at the age of 13 and with very good grades. We’ve had young Nigerians competing excellently at international level in the literature. We’ve had youthful Nigerians winning prestigious laurels in inter national soccer league and we have equally had young Nigerians excelling in the Arts and entertainments.
Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo represents an enduring inspirations and role model in the Nigerian musical and entertainment industry in Nigerian and beyond.
He is an award winning Nigerian musicians, producer extraordinaire, song writer per excellence and a genius. A very unusual personality who despite being visually impaired have not only demonstrate that there is ability in disability but went further to show that he can “see” opportunity where sighted Nigerians are blind to see.
Though an indigene of Cross River State, he was born on the 6th January 1981 in Lagos, Nigerian. He started his professional training as a lawyer but later branched into music full time to fulfill a lifelong desire he had though silently nurtured.
Cobhams Asuquo likes to say that his musical career started when as a child he used to puff his checks to play the 12-bar blues. Today he is known for producing some of the finest artists in Nigerian.
When people negatively perceived that gospel music can not be done in the same or higher quality like the secular one, Asuquo and the likes of Tosin Martina, Lara George, TY Bello, Roof top MC, proved otherwise and debunked the notion, churning out highest quality gospel music.
His style comprises a wide spectrum of genres based on careful understudy of such classical, jazz and traditional music greats as Tchaikovsky, Dave Grusion and Haruna Ishola respectively.
He may not be a medical doctor, but he is appreciative of the power of healing of music and how the message of music can be crafted to cause healing and deliverance, deriving his inspiration from David’s usage of music from harp to cause deliverance to Saul.
He is currently signed onto Sony ATV (Sony publishing) London as a song writer and has won awards in music as well as other field of interest.
After working as Head of audio production at a local label, Question mark Entertainment, he set up his own recording facilities in 2006 and became the CEO/Head of production of CAMP (Cobhams Asuquo Music Production) CAMP is an all emerging entertainment company that discovers, nurtures and expose great talents.

He has arranged music for and performed with bands at such international musical events at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA 2006), AFA sponsored France cultural centre concert with ASA and Angelique kid Jo (Malawi), AFA sponsored French cultural center concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, Nigerian week (song), the launch of MTV’S one hundred channel (MTV Base Africa) of Abuja, Nigerian. The NIGCOM sat launch (the launch of Nigerian’s first communication satellite), he also wrote and produced songs from the recently released album of one of the Nigerian finest soul singing sensation –Asa-whose 2007 debut album became an international hit.
He has won multiple locals and international Award for his creative and entrepreneurial contributions to the Nigerian music industry, worthy of mention among the Award are the Future Award 2006, producer of the year, Hip Hop world Award 2007, producer of the year, Hip Hop World Award 2008, producer of the year, Nigerian music Award (NIMA) 2007 producer of the decades.
On 2 December 2010, Cobhams Asuquo got married to Ojuolape Veronica Olu Kanmi. He describes marriage as a fantastic institution and like “a mail box which depends on where you want to put it”.
The courage and entrepreneurial spirit of Cobhams Asuquo, no doubt provides impetus for youths to be inspired and rise above every challenges working against their vision. It also signifies that any one persistent with his vision along with prayer has a date with destiny.
